Silk Habotai


Silk Habotai by James Hare is a sheer fabric. The fabric is also known as Jab Silk, China Silk, Pongee or Habutai from the Japanese Habutae, literally ‘feather-two-layer’ and is one of the most basic plain weave silk fabrics. Very popular for silk painting in the use of making stunning scarves and Lingerie. Traditionally woven in Japan, most habotai is woven in China today. Extensively used as a lining silk but is also used for blouses and lingerie. A lightweight silk fabric, once used mainly for making Kimonos.
