Some factors to consider when making a Bag purchase:
The shell (outside) of your bag is made using the finest quality pure silk fabrics, from one of the world leaders, James Hare.
Depending on the bag style, we use a combination of interlining and/or canvas.
Bag lining can either be a base colour like black, one which matches the outside of your bag or one that's a complete contrast. This is dependant not only on the style of the bag and the facilities it has, but also your preferred choice.
We use 100% pure silk thread in the construction of your bag. Investing in a quality thread is important; it's what holds your accessory together after all!
The stitching of your clutch bag is done using a mixture of hand stitching and domestic sewing machine stitching.
Straps & Decoration
Our straps vary from using the bag fabric to loop chains or there is also our exquisite, pure crystal bezel chains. Many of our bags are embellished with the finest crystals or you can always ask us to add some if your product doesn't show as including crystals.
The closure of your bag can range from zips and snap fasteners, to a turn clasp or a stunning pure Crystal Button. A closure should be secure but not out of proportion in weight, relative to the delicacy of the material and structure its going onto.
We offer a Sample Service where you can order a small piece of the fabric(s) before buying. It's important to us that you are going to love your purchase. You may equally be happy with the colours and fabrics as you see them on our website. An image can never convey the true look and feel of this truly beautiful, natural, and hypo-allergenic fabric. You are also welcome to visit our Studio which at present is by appointment only, where you can browse through all the James Hare fabric samples at your leisure.
Some Handbag & Purse Snippets...
A handbag is commonly known as a purse in USA. The term 'purse', originally referred to a small bag for holding coins; the term 'handbag' first began to appear in the early 1900's. 'Pocketbook' is another term used in the United States. Purses were born via early, modern Europeans, who wore a purse for the sole purpose of carrying their coins. They were made of soft fabric or leather and were worn by men as often as women. Indeed, the Scottish sporran is a survival of this custom. The oldest known purse dates back more than 5000 years. It was a pouch, and it was worn by a man. Men's purses were revived by designers in the 1970's in Europe. Since the 1990's, designers have marketed a more diverse range of accessory bags for men. The names 'man bag', 'man-purse' and 'murse' have all been used.
Young girls in the 17th century were taught embroidery as a necessary skill for getting married. This also helped them to make very beautiful handbags. Fashion in Europe was moving towards a slender shape for these accessories by the late 18th century. Inspired by the silhouettes of Ancient Greece and Rome; made of fine fabrics like silk and velvet and carried with wrist straps. After first becoming popular in France, they crossed over into Britain where they became known as indispensables. A trend not adopted by men however, at that point. They used purses and pockets, which became popular in men's trousers. The modern purse, clutch, pouch or handbag, came about in England during the Industrial Revolution, in part, due to the increase in travel by railway.
