Some factors to consider when making a Cummerbund purchase:
The material of your cummerbund is made using the finest, pure silk fabrics, from one of the world leaders, James Hare.
We take the interlining as seriously as we take the shell and use a quality wool interlining which also gives body where required.
We use 100% pure silk thread in the construction of your accessory. Investing in a quality thread is important; it's what holds your accessory together after all!
We stitch your cummerbund using a mixture of hand stitching and domestic sewing machine stitching.
The closure should be strong enough to remain closed without coming loose as you move but should not however, be out of proportion in weight to the garment. We use hook and loop to provide a secure fastening or sliders depending on the structure.
Why not have yours embellished with crystals from Swarovski®?...email or call us to discuss your requirements.
We offer a Sample Service where you can order a small piece of the fabric(s) before buying. It's important to us that you are going to love your purchase. You may equally be happy with the colours and fabrics as you see them on our website. An image can never convey the true look and feel of this truly beautiful, natural, and hypo-allergenic fabric. You are also welcome to visit our Studio which at present is by appointment only, where you can browse through all the James Hare fabric samples at your leisure.
Some Cummerbund Snippets...
Traditionally made in silk, originating in Asia around 1850 and adopted by the British whilst under Colonial Rule! Originating from the Persian word 'Kamarband' which refers to anything belt like; 'kamar' meaning 'loins' and 'band' meaning 'sash'. When wearing your tuxedo, the importance is in immaculate presentation and an eye for detail! A cummerbund is a waist covering which prevents your shirt from making an appearance below your jacket buttons. Wearing one forms a 'V' shape above the button line of the jacket, broadening your chest, elongating your legs and tidying your frame.
You don't have to wear one with your tuxedo but you could wear a waistcoat if not. Never wear both! You could opt contemporary and wear neither. If you opt for a coloured cummerbund, do not match it with your bow tie; keep you bow black and vice versa!
The pleats were originally a functional part whereby men could store tickets and other small items. Your pleats should always face up the way. Traditionally black to match your jacket, trousers and bow tie, but colour has found its way now too. Do not wear a matching bow tie (except black of course); you will be compromising it integrity! The curve of your cummerbund compliments a tuxedo with a shawl collar while the points of a waistcoat compliment a peaked tuxedo lapel. If you wear braces, they can be worn with either a cummerbund or waistcoat, but stick to black or white.
